Here's a few bites of information about Rocco Rossi and just how different he is from his new leader, Tim Hudak.
Smoke – Free Ontario Act
What Rocco Rossi used to believe:
“A historic and positive step to protect employees and the public sector from the harmful effects of second-hand smoke and, through the retail display ban, to protect our children from being targeted by the tobacco industry every time they enter a convenience store.” (Letter to the Editor, Ottawa Citizen, March 19, 2006)
What Tim Hudak believes:
Voted against the Smoke Free Ontario Act
City of Toronto
What Rocco Rossi used to believe:
“I love the city.” (blogTO, January 17, 2010)
What Tim Hudak believes:
Does not love the city. He was part of a government that:
- Went from funding 75% of public transit costs to 0%.
- Scrapped the Eglinton subway extension
- Downloaded ODB, ODSP, public health, affordable housing, land ambulance, childcare, and policing onto municipalities.
- The extension of the Spadina subway to York Region
- The City of Toronto Act
Foreign Students
What Rocco Rossi used to believe:
“Canada can play a leading role in fostering global understanding by encouraging foreign students to study here.” (Toronto Star, January 20, 1987)
What Tim Hudak believes:
Opposes helping international students come to Ontario
Healthy eating in schools
What Rocco Rossi used to believe:
“Rocco Rossi, chief executive officer of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, said in a statement the government deserved kudos for ‘joining us in our fight against trans fats.’
“‘We look forward to working together to make our schools a healthier environment for our children,’ said Rossi.” (Toronto Star, December 5, 2007)
What Tim Hudak believes:
Thinks banning junk food in schools is “a bizarre obsession.” (Toronto Star, October 19, 2010)
Also don't forget he dropped out of the race for Mayor of Toronto with only 2 weeks to go.I say to all of my Liberal friends, don't sweat over this defection, and the best thing that could happen to the Liberals is to have Rocco Rossi run as a Conservative.
Until next time!
